Teachers Agree: "This is special!"

Pictured above: When Arty Van Gogh mobile studio visited schools last year, students created their own spider web work of art and received a copy of Charlotte's Web.

ARTY (Art Reaching Today's Youth) will soon kick-off its popular Literacy through the Arts enrichment program for the 2022/2023 school year in Broward County. Committed to providing creative, fun and hands-on learning opportunities, ARTY weaves visual arts and literacy together for students at under-resourced elementary schools. In a colorful refurbished school bus, students positively express themselves through artwork that centers around a story. Each child also receives their own book to take home!

Empowerment through Literacy

Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida has expanded its community-based adult-education programming. In partnership with Women’s Center of Jacksonville, the organization now helps even more clients by sharing resources and expertise to remove barriers so students can achieve their literacy goals.

Lynette applied for a job that required her to first pass a written test. "My reading has improved a lot," she said about her experience with Literacy Alliance. "Not only did I get a new job, but I can read signs and bus schedules now. That has freed me to travel all over the city."

Students Ready to Soar

Roots and Wings strengthens literacy in Palm Beach County through after-school, small-group instruction led by certified educators who encourage and support young readers.

"As the new school year begins, we are excited for our chance to again encourage and inspire children by helping them learn the reading basics," said Ted Hoskinson, Founder of Roots and Wings. "Thank you to The Jim Moran Foundation for helping Roots and Wings make a larger impact by helping students learn to read and gain confidence in their ability to succeed."
