The Jim Moran Foundation Awards $500,000 Grant to Ability Housing
Grant provided in recognition of The Foundation’s 20th anniversary
Jacksonville, FL - Ability Housing today announced that it has received a $500,000 grant from The Jim Moran Foundation to address the affordable housing crisis in Northeast Florida.
This multi-year, capacity-building grant will support Ability Housing’s efforts to increase the inventory of affordable housing in Duval County, where the organization currently owns and operates 378 units of rental housing that is affordable, high-quality, energy efficient and sustainable.
Ability Housing is so grateful for this support; it is really going to help us create more housing for our neighbors in need,” said Shannon Nazworth, President and CEO of Ability Housing. “The Jim Moran Foundation is a leader in investing in proven solutions to the challenges facing our community. The need for a safe, affordable place to live has never been more relevant than it is right now as we continue to deal with the coronavirus. We value their partnership as we work to create more housing options throughout Duval County.”
Jim Moran established The Jim Moran Foundation in 2000 to ensure his giving back to children and families would continue beyond his lifetime. To commemorate this 20-year milestone, The Foundation awarded more than $10 million in special grants that reach beyond its traditional funding priorities to support nonprofit partners that are meeting the ever-changing needs of the community in Broward, Duval and Palm Beach counties.
“Through this special grant, we are excited about expanding our partnership with Ability Housing to help even more individuals and families in Jacksonville find a safe place to call home," said Jan Moran, chairman and president, The Jim Moran Foundation.
