The Jim Moran Foundation Announces Plans for New Headquarters in Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL.– The Jim Moran Foundation today announced plans to build a new headquarters on a 2.43-acre parcel at 4545 N. Federal Highway that will include a 50,000-square-foot building with class-A office space, event space, and an archives gallery.
The Foundation closed Friday on the $9.8 million purchase of the Fort Lauderdale property. Construction is scheduled to begin next year.
Established in 2000 by automotive pioneer and entrepreneur Jim Moran, The Foundation has invested more than $192 million to improve the quality of life for the youth and families of Florida through the support of innovative programs and opportunities that meet the everchanging needs of the community. It has provided funds for elder care, education, transitional living initiatives, and family strengthening programs, primarily focusing on Broward, Palm Beach and Duval counties.
“My husband believed in preparing for the future, and The Foundation is looking forward to designing a headquarters that will provide sufficient space to allow us to continue his legacy of giving back and collaborating with local partners,” said Jan Moran, chairman and president of The Jim Moran Foundation. “We are envisioning an architecturally significant building that will enhance the surrounding community and position The Foundation for its continued growth.”
The Foundation is currently housed in Deerfield Beach on the headquarters campus of JM Family Enterprises, a diversified automotive company founded by Jim Moran that includes Southeast Toyota, the largest independent Toyota distributor. JM Family and its subsidiaries remain The Foundation’s most significant funders.
The new site for The Foundation will also provide a new home for the South Florida Operations of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, a development program for small business owners and nonprofit leaders created by Jim Moran in 1995 which is part of Florida State University’s College of Business. The Institute currently has offices in a separate location in Fort Lauderdale.
Greenberg Traurig P.A. represented The Foundation in the purchase of the land and is assisting with ongoing zoning and permitting matters for the project.
