Event Focused on Bringing Community Leaders Together to Fight Hunger in South Florida
Pembroke Park, Fla. - On Friday, January 28, Feeding South Florida (formerly Daily Bread Food Bank) teamed up with community leaders, elected officials, school board members, and representatives of Feeding South Floridas network of not-for-profit organizations in an effort to mobilize the South Florida community to Fight Hunger and Feed Hope in the new year.
During the event, representatives from The Jim Moran Foundation presented Feeding South Florida with a check in the amount of $200,000. This grant will support the Purchased Food Program, the Wholesale Food Club Program and General Operations at Feeding South Florida. In total, The Foundation has provided Feeding South Florida more than $340,000 since 2003."My husband, Jim, created his Foundation to be responsive to the immediate and ever-changing needs of our community," said Jan Moran, chairman and president, The Jim Moran Foundation. "It is our privilege to support Feeding South Florida in their extraordinary efforts to help thousands of individuals and families facing hunger every day."
Feeding South Florida celebrated The Jim Moran Foundation with a proclamation requested by Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness and signed by Mayor Sue Gunzburger, naming Friday, January 28 as The Jim Moran Foundation Appreciation Day. Feeding South Florida also recognized exemplary volunteers and agency members with gold medals, commending them for their service to the South Florida community.
"Our community leaders are integral to helping us in the fight against hunger," said Judith Gatti, executive director of Feeding South Florida. "The Community Breakfast provides an excellent forum where we can develop more ways to get local residents involved in helping the many South Floridians who suffer from food insecurity. This gift from The Jim Moran Foundation could not come at a better time to help us increase the number of food insecure clients we are able to serve."
