Deerfield Beach, Fla. Jermaine Bridges, a 2010 graduate of Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Fla., has been named this year's North Florida African-American Youth Achiever by the The Jim Moran Foundation. Along with this honor, he has received a four-year needs-based scholarship to Florida State University (FSU). With funding provided through the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship at (FSU), each year a high school senior who qualifies for financial aid and has applied and received admission to FSU is selected for the award.

"When I found out that I got the scholarship, I was so excited because, financially, I wasn't sure how I would get through all four years," Jermaine said. "I really needed it. My family is ecstatic."

During his senior year, Jermaine took four advanced placement courses, served as Class Treasurer, and was active in numerous school organizations and community volunteer activities. With a desire to help others succeed, Jermaine also spent many hours tutoring fellow students in his best subject math. He hopes to major in mathematics education and, one day, become a professor.

"Jermaine is a focused, hard-working young man who also values the importance of giving back. He is well-deserving and has earned this recognition," said Jan Moran, chairman and president of The Jim Moran Foundation. "As a Youth Achiever, Jermaine represents all the promise and potential of our future generation, and I know my husband, Jim, would have been one of the first cheering him on for continued success."
