FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. (WID) has been awarded a multi-year grant totaling $300,000 from The Jim Moran Foundation in support of our mission to provide services for families affected by domestic violence and to expand the Childrens Program.

Through a variety of services, the Childrens Program at Women In Distress seeks to improve the lives of children, ages 4-17 who have been exposed to domestic violence. Funding from The Jim Moran Foundation will allow Women In Distress to further develop its current program offerings for youth, as well as increase the number of family sessions and teen groups offered at the Jim and Jan Moran Family Center in Deerfield Beach. This expansion will also include a Boys Youth Group and a pilot program in collaboration with Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies focusing on the effects of domestic violence on high-risk teens, expectant mothers and children.

"Women In Distress is extremely honored to be supported by The Jim Moran Foundation," said Mary Riedel, president and CEO of WID. "In their tradition of giving back in order to improve the quality of life for youth and families, this generous multi-year grant will help us continue to provide quality services to the children and families who come through our doors because of domestic violence."

"Even before their leadership gift to open the current Jim and Jan Moran Family Center in Fort Lauderdale, our founder and his wife recognized the critical need in our community for Women In Distress and its mission to Stop Abuse For Everyone. Through this grant, we are honoring Jim Moran's legacy and giving voice to some of the youngest victims of domestic violence. He would have expected his foundation to continue supporting the life-saving and life-changing services offered by Women In Distress," said Melanie Burgess, Founding Board of Director of The Jim Moran Foundation.

This funding from The Jim Moran Foundation will allow Women In Distress to continue to be there for the community - continue to provide a stabilized, safe environment for victims and their families, continue to provide the necessary free supportive services, and continue to ultimately help our participants build and sustain independence in a violence free life.
