The Jim Moran Foundation Awards Grant to Broward Homebound
Deerfield Beach, Fla. — The Jim Moran Foundation has awarded a two-year grant totaling $120,000 to the Broward Homebound Program, Inc. (BHP) for its Caregiver Assistance Program. The program will provide free weekly respite care to elderly residents in Broward County.
"We are honored to receive funding from The Jim Moran Foundation," said Gail Silver, board president, BHP. "This grant will allow us to continue fulfilling our mission of enabling elderly and disabled adults to live independently with dignity in their homes."
The Caregiver Assistance Program will serve clients age 60 and older who have been diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, cancer, stroke, Parkinson's disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. Referrals for the program will be accepted by calling the intake specialist at 954-786-2484, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A BHP case manager will assess the client in their home and discuss the appropriate services with the caregiver. Services will be provided in home by licensed home health agencies.
By utilizing the services of a licensed home health-care worker, free of charge, caregivers receive a welcome break from their daily tasks and can take time for themselves. This also helps to alleviate stress and gives them time to refresh and focus on their personal needs. Additionally, Broward Homebound hopes to secure funding to offer caregiver workshops on various topics such as financial assistance and support groups.
"The Jim Moran Foundation is happy to partner with Broward Homebound to offer our seniors and their caregivers the support necessary to help maintain their quality of life while living with self-respect and self-sufficiency in their homes," said The Foundation's chairman and president, Jan Moran
